Reality TV Star Janet Caperna Escapes U.S. After Chilling Death Threats
Reality television has long been a stage for drama, but for Janet Caperna, star of Bravo’s hit show The Valley, the spotlight has turned dangerous. In a shocking turn of events, the 35-year-old reality star has fled the United States following an onslaught of death threats and aggressive online harassment. Fans and followers alike are now asking: How did it get this bad?

From Reality Star to Targeted Victim
Once a celebrity assistant to actress Cameron Diaz, Janet Caperna stepped into the limelight when she joined the cast of The Valley. Like many reality stars, she expected scrutiny and commentary. But what she received went far beyond criticism — it turned into a disturbing flood of abuse that threatened her and her child’s safety.
As she flew across the Atlantic to escape the threats, Caperna locked her Instagram account. The abuse, she says, had become too personal and too dangerous to ignore.
The Messages No One Deserves
“I hope you rot like you deserve. I hope your child grows up absolutely hating you.”
Screenshots of the messages, obtained by the Daily Mail, reveal the truly vile nature of the harassment. One troll wrote,
Another added a deeply unsettling threat:
“I know where you live. I’ve seen where your son goes when you’re not with him.”
According to Caperna, some of the messages referenced her family by name, indicating that trolls had done extensive research to personalize their abuse.
“This isn’t constructive criticism,” Caperna emphasized. “This is not part of the job. It’s hate. It’s slurs. It’s dangerous.”
Podcast Pain: Exposing the Truth
During a recent episode of her podcast This Side of the Hill, which she co-hosts with Jared Lipscomb, Janet revealed just how disturbing the threats have become. Lipscomb read some of the worst messages aloud not for shock value, but to show listeners the reality stars often endure behind the scenes.

One message read:
“I hope you die a slow and painful death. You are so ugly. Are you actually a man? You are evil and I wish death upon you, you piece of s**t.”
Another hate-filled message included a racial slur and made a horrifying comment about her child:
“It’s a shame your son is still breathing, you little [n-word] lover.”
“I’m Learning to Set Boundaries”
Caperna says she’s using this painful chapter as a learning moment not just for herself but for others who may be struggling with online toxicity.
“I’m sick of threats and slurs being normalized because ‘we signed up for this when we joined reality TV,’” she said.
“That’s sick. That’s not normal. And I’m not ever going to pretend it is.”
She added that she’s taking steps to protect her family and mental health.
“I’m learning how to put boundaries on social media in place and learning as I go.”
Caperna still supports healthy conversation about reality TV and says shows like The Valley can spark cultural discussions but not at the expense of basic human decency.
Betrayed by a Former Friend?
Perhaps one of the deepest emotional blows came not from strangers, but someone Caperna once trusted. She claims a former friend also a cast member on The Valley was seen interacting with the trolls online. Instead of defending her, this person allegedly responded to a disturbing comment about her child and her sobriety with laughing emojis.
“I had a former friend who responded to someone’s comment questioning the safety of my child, questioning whether I had a drinking problem,” she revealed.
“This former friend decided to respond with a laughing, jokey emoji and I’m so disappointed in that.”
The Dark Side of Internet Fame
“It makes me wonder,” she said. “How many people throughout my day am I interacting with that are like this behind closed doors? Like, when I’m checking out at the grocery store, is that person messaging someone they don’t like hate like this?”
For now, Caperna is focusing on protecting her family, healing, and continuing her work from a safe distance. Her bravery in sharing the truth behind the screen reminds us all that fame should never come at the cost of basic human dignity.
