PRICE WILLIAM REVEALS HIS VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MONARCHY AND HOW IT ALL TIES BACK TO PRINCE GEORGE - BWF Media TV

The British monarchy has stood as a symbol of tradition for centuries, but Prince William, the Prince of Wales, is looking to steer it toward a new future.

In a heartfelt and revealing conversation, the 43-year-old royal opened up about his vision, the pressures of being heir to the throne, and his deep desire to make his eldest son, Prince George, “proud.”

During his candid sit-down with actor Eugene Levy on Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler (aired Friday, October 3), gave rare insight into his hopes, fears, and responsibilities both as a future king and as a father.

“Change Is on My Agenda”

Prince William made it clear that he does not plan to inherit the throne without also bringing meaningful transformation to the monarchy. “Change is on my agenda,” he told Levy. “Change for good. And I embrace that, and I enjoy that change I don’t fear it.”

While he stressed that he does not plan “overly radical change,” William explained that he sees opportunities to move the monarchy forward in ways that matter to the people it serves. For him, the excitement lies in being able to create lasting impact rather than clinging to outdated practices.

Raising a Future King: His Thoughts on Prince George

At just 12 years old, Prince George is already growing up in the spotlight as second in line to the throne. When asked how he feels about George eventually becoming king, William admitted it’s “a big question.”

“Obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do,” he explained. “A world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better.”

William also acknowledged that he hopes George won’t face the same struggles he and Prince Harry endured as young royals. “I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation,” he said. His protective words reveal a father determined to shield his children from repeating painful chapters of royal history.

Mentioning Prince Harry: A Subtle but Powerful Moment

One of the most striking parts of William’s conversation was his unexpected reference to his brother, Prince Harry. The two remain estranged following Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step down as senior royals in 2020 and move to California with their children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4.

For William to bring Harry into the discussion especially while reflecting on difficult childhood experiences is a significant acknowledgment. It shows how deeply their shared past still shapes his perspective on raising his own family.

The Overwhelming Weight of Family Pressure

William confessed that his greatest stress doesn’t come from public duties, but from the family side of things. “When it’s to do with family and things like that, then that’s where I start getting a bit overwhelmed,” he admitted.

It’s a sentiment many people can relate to: balancing career responsibilities with the intense desire to protect and nurture loved ones. For William, the stakes are simply magnified by the global scrutiny that surrounds his every move.

Coping With Media Scrutiny

The Prince of Wales admitted that while he enjoys his role, there are times when the constant speculation and media attention feel “a little bit harder than other jobs.”

Growing up, William witnessed firsthand how relentless press intrusion affected his parents, King Charles III and Princess Diana, whose troubled marriage and divorce played out under intense public glare. “If you’re not careful, you can intrude so much into someone’s life that actually you start unpicking everything,” he said.

Determined to protect his family, William takes a firm stance against overstepping boundaries. “If you let that creep in, the damage it can do to your family life is something that I vowed would never happen to my family,” he declared.

A Balancing Act: Duty vs. Authenticity

Although William accepts the public’s interest in the royals, he is clear about one thing: his ultimate goal is to stay true to himself.

“It’s not something I wake up in the morning and think about,” he said of his destiny to become king. “Being authentic and being myself and being genuine is what drives me.”

In his words, titles and roles are secondary. What truly matters is character and staying grounded in personal values a lesson he hopes his children will carry with them as well.

Facing Family Health Challenges

William also touched on the struggles of navigating family health crises, including his father King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis and his wife Princess Kate Middleton’s recent health battles. These moments, he said, highlight the importance of drawing boundaries and finding peace in the midst of royal life.

Looking Ahead: A Prince With a Plan

As William prepares for the responsibilities ahead, his words paint a picture of a modern heir determined to combine tradition with progress. His emphasis on protecting his children, especially Prince George, reflects a relatable truth: at the heart of even the most public roles is the simple wish to give one’s family a better future.
